RS20s
Joy has combined its superior roof support automation flexibility and features with a new generation electronic control system. RS20s has more processing power than any other system currently in use and communicates much faster than other roof support control systems on the market. The RS20s electronics consist of a Mimic (the man to machine interface), Micro (Control Unit) and a STU (Solenoid Transducer Unit), which controls the hydraulic functions of the support. This combination provides fully comprehensive control and monitoring capabilities with excellent reliability.
Operator Friendly
The Mimic has been designed with the operator in mind, containing many unique features that can only be found on a Joy electronic system. To simplify operation, the flat front panel uses a mimic diagram to illustrate all the support functions. The use of complex or confusing symbols is avoided and this results in a very "user friendly" unit, giving first time operators the confidence to operate the system with little training. All function buttons are round and large, making them easy to operate by someone wearing gloves. The large “high-bright” LCD display on the Mimic can display graphics and multiple languages. Finally, an integrated infrared (IR) receiver is built into the unit, which allows IR shearer tracking without having to purchase an additional peripheral IR receiver. All of these features are contained in a small package that allows the Mimic to be positioned for maximum operator convenience.
Smaller is Better, Flexible
RS20s uses a common, robust, environmentally proven four-wire cable, which is completely interchangeable between all units in the system. The separation of the user interface (Mimic) and the Microprocessor mean that these small components can be located in the best-protected and most ergonomically suited positions on the shield. The units can also remain on the supports during face moves, thus eliminating another potential cause of damage. Finally, the smaller units and small-diameter, flexible cables are less obstructive to face personnel movement on the face.
Fault Tolerance, fast diagnostics
The RS20s system was designed to automatically pinpoint all faults on the face. When power is reset, it is supplied sequentially to each unit so any shorts are detected before affecting the local power supply. This is the first roof support control system that eliminates the need to unplug cables for any type of fault finding on the face. Under most fault conditions, the system will report the fault and continue operating, maximizing system uptime. The fault will be recorded in the Fault Log for the maintenance team. Each fault has an individual help message explaining what the fault means, how it might have occurred and what action the operator should take. The logs also include a special "sort" facility to allow the operator to quickly process the data available to him.
Proven Control, increased functionality
The RS20s system uses the same control functionality as the highly successful RS20 system. An operator proficient with RS20 will seamlessly transfer to RS20s with minimal training. The RS20s system is supplied with a complete automation library of over 100 face cutting sequences to suit all customers. Using shearer initiation with gate-end automation, no operators need to be specifically deployed for shield operation. The majority of RS20s installations are using full gate end automation.
RS20s also contains all the features you would expect from a shield control system, including Bank Push, Double Snake, Autodrag, Multiple Advance, Slewing the face (Wedge Cut), configurable Advance Sequences, Advance Retries and Incremental Advance and Push.
